Samplephonics – Wondrous Curiosities

Producers and musicians are well aware that Samplephonics have been in the sample development field since 2011 and have grown thier catalog to serve the sample hungry producers. They have been churning out sample libraries for many years. This release, though, takes you to the journey of fine acoustic melodies, wonderful instrument lines and the cheekiest of instrument chops. Wondrous Curiosities is a beautiful sample pack that specializes in acoustic sounding samples for the in-demand producers. Rather than a thematic library, it caters to different musical genres. It has a bit of everything in between and the samples have been tempo and key-labeled for convenience. Popular sampler patches are included, major sample files such as ACID WAV and Apple Loops AIFF are supported. The kalimba, ukelele and flute loop folders are definitely worth the look if you’re going for a more conventional sound. The drum loops and basses are useful, too, and have led the way in this library. Bottom line, if you’re stuck making good compositions, Wondrous Curiosities is sure to fire up your creativity.

Loopmasters – Man Vs Machine

A must for Krautrock fans, Man Vs Machine is aimed squarely at the minimalist electronic producers. Sounds include range from lush pads, smooth leads, arpeggios, analogue percussions and FX hits. The samples have been meticulously programmed to sound “analogue” as if they were plucked out of the 1970’s era where groups such as Kraftwerk and Can were making waves on the radio. The file names are clearly labeled indicating information and key. The samples themselves sound great, and are ready to drop in any electronic genre, including ambient, electronica, chillout and synthwave. Overall, this 2.25 GB library is good all across its folders. The 178 Arp loops is a good place to start with when you’re looking for an inspiration.

Zero-G – Nu Bossa

Anyone producing lounge, samba and bossa nova music knows how important it is to have the best possible instruments that you can get your hands on and high-quality samples when creating tracks. This is where Nu Bossa comes in – a collection of 32 construction kits of loops with a modern take in today’s South-American-influenced music. With 2 GB of content, this is a good collection of starter samples or ones to augment into your own mixes. From acoustic and electric bass to guitars and cabassa to surdo, the loops sound very fresh, crisp and the production is superb. The samples were created and recorded by Davor Devcic, the same producer who brought smashing titles Classic Disco, Brazil Chillout, Lounge & Chill, Satin Grooves and Club Classics to Zero-G’s ever growing catalog. Overall, I love this pack. The construction kits are great. Just by listening to the full mix files makes my head move rhythmically to the beats. The drum loops and pianos stand out particularly.

Bluezone Corporation – Sky Observer Cinematic Samples 01 and 02 Bundle

Many EFX sounds are very useful in giving productions that certain edge or interest. They also help ease the transition of a track going from one section to another. Many composers/producers rely on high quality effects for this very reason. Sky Observer from Bluezone Corporation is a cinematic FX pack with download sizes of 1.2 and 1.3 GB respectively, with about 300 WAV files of content that is instantly suitable for any modern production. It includes loads of futuristic sounds such as impacts, exotic noises, evolving pads, bass elements, synths with multiple movements and transitional EFX elements. The production of both libraries (vol. 1 and vol. 2) is stunning and a lot of the samples have that nice sheen on the top end, especially the drum loops. The synths loops were created using high-end gear such as Nord Modular, Access Virus, Hartmann Neuron, etc., and are equally sonically good with the rest of the samples. The complex pad sounds are clear and can cut through any mix. Overall, throw down some dynamic flare in your production with this out-of-this-world collection of effects sounds. A must buy for ambient, cinematic and soundtrack sample fanatics.

Samplephonics – Dreamscape Cinema

Sophisticated, electro-cool, funky and imaginative are some of the superlatives I can use to describe to this sample library from Samplephonics. Dreamscape Cinema consist of Italian-style samples with plenty of fantastic live performances including keys, surf guitars, bass, drums and percussion, and horn sections, – with tempos ranging from a soothing 60 to a fast 150 BPM. It is produced by the talented Dream Pop artist Matilde Davoli. The 685 MB of samples in 24-bit format are well recorded and very well played, especially the guitar riffs folder and shuffling drums and tasty percussion loops. If you’re a producer looking for that authentic dream pop, cinematic soundtrack or pop with a touch of contemporary electronic flare, this library will not disappoint. The creative library cover is very cool, too.
