Bluezone Corporation EDM FX Samples

This sound library from Bluezone Corporation is a collection of FX samples that are designed to add instant energy and interest to all EDM productions. Whether you dabble in electronic dance such as Progressive House, Electro, Techno or Trance, this modern sample pack is ready to drop in anyone’s composition. EDM FX contains 162 WAV files (24-bit) of risers, impacts, white noises, transitional sounds, etc. that were made with well-selected hardware and processed heavily. The sounds here are ready to go, that most of them are washed with delay and reverb. In this collection, there are plenty of transitional sounds that you can use to fill gaps in any section of your tracks. They are not just purely for EDM, however. The samples are also great for adding impact to Cinematic compositions and adding depth to, say, Electro Pop songs. Overall, EDM FX is a good source of samples that producers should consider looking into.

Samplephonics – Ethereal Guitarscapes

Samplephonics delivers an array of ethereal samples made from guitars! Ethereal Guitarscapes is a stunning 1.4 GB sample pack created using a Fender Strat, ’68 Fender Telecaster and Levinson Blade RH4 by talented guitar guru Damian Nolan. Inside the collection you’ll find plenty of loops and one-shots to play within your DAW. Sounds in the library include ethereal e-bow guitar pads, ambient plucked melodies, FX pedal sustain soundscapes, chromatic layered sounds, and abstract FX loops and harmonics. All in all, there are 233 loops and 73 one-shots in Acid, Rex2 and Apple loop audio formats. When I auditioned the loops and one-shots in Sony Acid, I noticed that the samples are very clean and crystal clear. The loops are beautifully recorded; they sound so lush and applied with just the right amount of reverberation.

So what do I think? This library is definitely highly useable and can be dropped into your new arrangement or as a foundation for your latest composition. If you’re looking for an inventive library to push your ambient/new age tracks to the clouds, then consider Ethereal Guitarscapes to be in your next shopping list.

Loopmasters – Future Sound of Ambient

Inspired by the sound of electronic groups such as Authecre, The Future Sound of London, Speedy J, The Orb, etc., Future Sound of Ambient is a collection of samples that captures the 90’s essence of electronica and ambient sounds. Produced by Glen Nichols for Loopmasters, this sample pack includes over 1GB  of incredible sounds such as drones, bass hit, drum hits, sci-fi FX, glitchy drum, textures, voices, pads and more. Glen Nichols used 90’s studio staples Korg MS20 and Roland SH101 in creating the sounds and fed the signals thru a Studiomaster mixer for a touch of analog warmth. I really love the diversity of the materials here, and Glen pushed the envelope of creating up-to-date, rich tone and textures that are ready for today’s modern productions. The FX samples in this library are tremendous. It reminds me of the esoteric sounds in FSOL’s Lifeforms album. The folder called ‘Drones’ has plenty of inspiring long, drifting samples that are great for ‘beds’ in an ambient composition. Overall, a versatile pack that offers that could easily fit into today’s IDM, ambient and experimental productions.

Big Fish Audio – Open Road

Open Road is an incredible American sample library collection from Big Fish Audio. It features instruments that include dobro, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, strummed and finger-picked acoustic guitars, muzette, drums, bass, guitars, B3 organ and Wurlitzer electric pianos. Like many of Big Fish Audio’s library, Open Road is delivered as a construction kit-type library. Inside you’ll find fifteen kits that were created in a complete song format. Elements include intros, verses, choruses, bridge, outros and ending notes allowing you to create your own mix or use them to add into your arrangement. There are 1,027 files total in the pack and audio formats such as WAV, Apple loops and REX2 are supported. If you opt for the KLI series version, a full version of Native Instruments’ Kontakt is required to take advantage of the 533 patches. So what do I think about this library? This is pure Americana and producers of country music will dig this library in a heartbeat. It’s not overly produced and the sounds have that pure, raw and authentic vibe in them. This is really great for songwriters of country music as an accompaniment loops or backing sounds. Thumbs up.

Loopmasters – Carl Cox Collective: My Life in Music

This 1.6 GB library contains very solid samples targeting the Acid House, Dance, Techno and EDM crowd. My Life in Music was created and produced by the man himself, none other than Carl Cox – a veteran producer and DJ who has been in the business for quite some time. The collection will give producers banging materials, as well as reflect who Carl Cox is sound-wise. Although the majority of the club-ready materials (in 44.1 kHz/24-bit) are drums (breaks, drums, mixed grooves) there are some really great bass and lead synth loops on offer. The inclusion FX builds, SFX and chord hits also make this pack attractive. I must say that there are plenty of ready-to-drop sounds in this collection to get you started in your productions. The loops are well made and you’ll find them applicable to other EDM sub-genres as well. Overall, Carl Cox Collective: My Life in Music is a good, reasonably priced library that will be a classic in the years to come. Make this part of your arsenal.

Big Fish Audio – The Hustle: Hip-Hop Construction Kits

Big Fish Audio delivers another construction kit library in the hip-hop genre called “The Hustle”. This 3.88 GB sample library is loaded with 30 construction kits that were pre-crafted and pre-arranged with all the elements needed for live situations or time in the studio. Expect to find some tasty sections (that can be used as verses, chorus, intros, etc.) of acoustic piano and Rhodes, guitars, strings pads, synths, grooviliscious drums, basses, vocals and more. In addition to the regular elements, each construction kits also include multi-track drum stems as well as single-drum hits in separate folders. This is a nice addition to those wanting to construct their own drum patterns. The loops were recorded in various keys and their tempo ranges from 74 BPM to 165 BPM for maximum flexibility. But regardless of what music you make, I think that a lot of the loops here are applicable to other genres as well. If you produce grime … no problem. There are plenty of sounds to choose from. You just have to make your imagination work. So what do I think of The Hustle? Firstly, I love the guitar and piano loops in this pack. They’re beautifully recorded and will cut through every mix they’re dropped in. And secondly, producers who are looking for a tool to enhance their creativity should check this out. The included sounds are perfect inspiration to get your creative juices flowing.

Samplephonics Drama & Suspense

Composers for game, TV series, film and commercials, meet Samplephonic’s cool SFX and cinematic sample pack offering in construction-kit form. With over 800 MB of sounds for cinematic and soundtrack music production (all in 44.1 kHz, 24-bit format), Drama & Suspense covers a wide variety of sounds for the demanding producer. There are 214 carefully designed elements such as soaring string parts, moody piano melodies, orchestral brass sections and powerful percussion patterns and a variety of transitional sounds that were well programmed and recorded.  I noticed while auditioning that the sounds are very crisp & clean and vibrant & emotive. The piano and brass samples are the ones I really like and should provide inspiration to producers who passionately work on the next masterpieces. Overall, a good starter set of samples that will get your artistic gears going.

Zero-G – Haunted Grounds: Abandoned Places

Most sample developers, if not all, don’t sit on their laurels and wait for things to happen – otherwise they’ll be left in the game. They have to constantly brainstorm new ideas and develop something uncommon. This sample library by Zero-G falls into that category of “something new” or “something special”. As the name suggests, Haunted Grounds is a sample pack geared for the production of soundtrack, dark ambient, horror and game music. According to Zero-G and its creator, Adam Pietruszko, the sound of Haunted Grounds is the result of capturing the spirit and atmosphere of forbidden places. These sounds include field recordings of abandoned factories, rusty warehouses, old structures and eerie buildings. All the samples were recorded using a Sony PCM-M10 recorder. It was then transferred and cut to Logic Pro using a Focusrite PRO 24 DPS sound card. The resulting 24-bit 48 kHz samples sound crisp and clear. Audio formats such as Acid WAV and AIFF Apple loops are supported and software samplers such as Kontakt, EXS24, HALion and NN-XT come with hundreds of presets. The material in Haunted Ground is broken into 4 main folders of Entities and Spirits, Exploration Echoes, Forgotten Atmospheres and Forsaken Technologies. If you like one-shot samples for fills in your compositions, Exploration Echoes has some really good useful sounds. For cold, otherworldly sounds, I like the samples in Forgotten Atmospheres folder. There are some really great sinister sounds for use in horror films. Bottomline, this is a good all-rounder EFX library that has a horrifying twist to it.

Bluezone Corporation Polarized World: Cinematic Loops and Samples

Here is another electronica pack that is highly futuristic from Bluezone Corporation and the focus this time is to cater the modern cinematic, orchestral and soundtrack composers who are looking to inject new and up-to-date sounds into their compositions. So if your production style is “cutting edge”, you’re in for a treat as there a lot of inspiring sounds on offer. You’ll find a vast collection of loops and hits such as drums, percussions, melodic synthesizers phrases, pads, soundscapes, vocals and more. All in all, Polarized World provides 341 samples in 24 Bit/44.1 kHz WAV format. What I like about this sample pack is the generous variety of loops that are useful. Even if they were designed to suit modern composers, this library covers plenty of styles. Ambient artists can definitely benefit the strong selection of pad samples. I think they’re great – especially the ones that are over a minute long! Overall, this is a good sample pack that is worth looking into.

Loopmasters – Fragments 01

When I reviewed Aethers 01 by Ultimae Records and Loopmasters, I was hoping that Loopmasters would release a sequel to it. I love that library. But when Fragments 01 arrived at my review desk, I was equally excited to fire up my DAW so I could audition the included sounds in this pack. Like Aethers 01, Fragments 01 taps into the realm of a futuristic ambient genre. In this library, the samples are broken into three categories of Atmospheres, Drum Hits and Interference and Coils. The latter being sci-fi sounds are good for fills in sections of a composition that has gaps. There is also a folder called Drum Loops that is geared for the IDM and Electronica producers. All in all, expect to find almost 1GB of loops and one-shots in high format quality. So what do I think of Fragments 01? In a word: otherworldly. The sounds are pretty amazing and the creation process of this library was well thought out. My favorite folder is the Atmosphere folder as there are plenty of inspiring reverb-drenched loops. Overall, Vincent Villuis & Mihalis Aikaterinis exhibited great teamwork in creating a nice collection of deep and dark sound experiments here.
